Top 5 Bank Fishing Spots on the Napa River


1. Kennedy Park

  • Location: 2296 Streblow Drive, Napa, CA 94558

  • Driving Directions: From downtown Napa, head south on Soscol Avenue for about 2 miles. Turn right onto Streblow Drive, and follow the road into Kennedy Park. The parking lot is near the river, with various trails leading down to the bank.

  • Fishing Tips: This spot offers plenty of amenities, including parking, picnic areas, and restrooms. It's a popular spot to fish for stripers. You can bait fish using cut bait or throw lures.


2. Cuttings Wharf

  • Location: Cuttings Wharf Road, Napa, CA 94559

  • Driving Directions: From downtown Napa, take Highway 29 South for approximately 5 miles. Take the Cuttings Wharf Road exit and turn right. Follow the road for about 2 miles to reach the fishing area near the boat launch.

  • Fishing Tips: This spot is ideal for targeting striped bass and sturgeon. If you fish off the public boat ramp (fishing is only allowed on the left (Northern Side) dock), you don't need a CA fishing license. Bring a chair and your favorite bait fishing setup. 3. Trancas Crossing Park

  • Location: 600 Trancas Street, Napa, CA 94558

  • Driving Directions: From downtown Napa, drive north on Soscol Avenue for about 2 miles. Turn left onto Trancas Street, then take a right onto Old Soscol Way. Turn right onto Trancas Crossing Road, and the park entrance will be on your left.

  • Fishing Tips: This secluded spot has gravelly banks and shady areas, perfect for catching stripers, largemouth bass, and bluegill. You can also use a light rod with a bobber and a night crawler setup to catch local bait fish, like bullheads or split tails. Stripers can't resist this delicacy. Use your live bait setup for a chance to reel in a trophy striper.


4. Riverside Drive

  • Location: Near the intersection of Riverside Drive and Imola Avenue, Napa, CA

  • Driving Directions: From downtown Napa, head south on Soscol Avenue for 1 mile. Turn right onto Imola Avenue, then take the first right onto Riverside Drive. Continue for about 0.7 miles, with several pull-off spots available for parking and river access.

  • Fishing Tips: This stretch is also popular for carp and catfish, with grassy areas along the shore for setting up gear. Stripers patrol these banks in numbers as well.


5. Napa River Trail

  • Location: Trailhead near Soscol Avenue and Vallejo Street, Napa, CA

  • Driving Directions: Take Soscol Avenue north for 1.5 miles from downtown Napa. There are various parking options along Soscol Avenue, with access to the trail near Vallejo Street.

  • Fishing Tips: The trail stretches for several miles, providing numerous fishing spots where you can catch striped bass, carp, and sunfish.


Bonus spot: Downtown, Napa.


Last but not least, there is a nice and secluded spot in downtown Napa, right behind the Oxbow Public Market. Park at the lot and walk down to the river. Pick any spot along the river bend, set up your gear with cut or live bait, and enjoy the striper action.
